Emblemas de la automoción
The first vehicle in the world to be built on an assembly line, 15 million Model Ts were produced (a figure only exceeded by the Volkswagen Beetle).
Before the appearance of the Model T, motor vehicles were a luxury product for the privileged few. They aroused envy, and considerable opposition because they frightened horses with their noise, caused clouds of dust, etc. Most people were against them and wanted to ban them. But when the first Model T rolled off the Ford assembly line on October 1, 1908, with a retail price of just $850, the modern age of motoring and mechanised transport really began. Henry Ford was convinced he had produced a good car at a low price ever since making his first vehicle in 1896. Thanks to assembly line production and the resulting cost reduction, he was able to lower the original price to an irresistible $360.
The Collection’s model is convertible, and was manufactured in 1927. One of its distinctive features is its wooden wheels, which must be frequently sprayed with water to prevent shrinkage and excessive rotation. The Ford T has an unusual driving method: of the three pedals used by the driver, one is for first gear, another is for reversing, and the third is the brake.
Some 8,000 working Ford Ts are estimated to still be in existence in the world. In 1999 the Ford T was voted the Car of the Century by motoring correspondents, experts and online vehicle enthusiasts.
Together with the AvionsVoisin, this was the first vehicle in the collection begun in the 50’s.
